Why Democrats Can’t Win the House

"WASHINGTON — Republicans and Democrats are struggling for control of the Senate in this November’s midterm elections. But there is no real fight for control of the House of Representatives.

The Republicans are all but assured of retaining control of the House, despite last fall’s unpopular government shutdown and the party’s dismal ratings."

Gerrymandering is why the Republicans have the House.

The Dems had plenty of time to do their own gerrymandering.

I don't think you understand what gerrymandering means or its implications.

I'm sort of surprised they have done so well in the Senate in recent years.  If anything, the Senate is where conservatives (Republicans) should more or less always win because the Senate is not representative at all - it highly favors smaller, more rural, more conservative states.  I think Democrats have been getting lucky there for quite some time.  It's like a constitutional amendment, because 3/4 of the states are needed and 1/4 of the states can block, just a few (13) rural states, as little as about 10% of the country's population, can block any Constitutional amendment from getting through and 75% of the states could approve one, which would be maybe 50% of the population, if the largest states (CA, FL, NY, TX, IL, PA, OH, etc) are the ones against.

It isn't just district gerrymandering, which goes both ways BTW (Illinois has been gerrymandered for Democrats who overwhelmingly won the legislature even though the Republican won governor, an election where districts do not matter), but state differences.  A lot of races were decided by a few votes, but also a large number of Democrats won in very blue states where the Democrats won overwhelmingly.  But the fact is that the Democrats winning in California 70/30 can't just ship their "extra" votes to Democrats losing 52/48 in other states any more than a baseball team can distribute their 9 extra runs in a game they win 11-1 to other games.  Sucks to be you.  Your policies suck and you have alienated too many voters.
