Geniuses share with schizophrenics a near-total disinterest in, and often an inability to participate meaningfully in, the mundane consensus reality of the masses.

And yes, there is plenty of overlap between the two.  If you took Isaac Newton from his time and put him in a homeless shelter today, all you would hear would be his ranting about the Book of Revelation, and you would assume him to be just another schizophrenic.  If you put Richard Feynman in Newton's England, he'd likely be burned as a witch.
