What I believe will happen is that new technology will open up forums in a new way, and people will continue to seek them out using those new technologies.  

I acknowledged in my post that FC is over.  But something new will appear which will be similar.  It won't be Twitter or Reddit or anything we know of.

I just don't think people have the attention spans anymore to discuss things like 9/11 or it's modern-day equivalent in any meaningful way.  Most online "discussions" these days consist of people basically chanting empty slogans they've heard their "side" use in the past, often without knowing where they originated or even what they mean.  This is one reason why there will never be anything like FC again.  Nobody has the time or patience to discuss anything, or critically assess their position on a particular issue.  They'll just log in, share some meme they found and saved over and over again, hoping the other guy gets bored with the discussion before they do.

Besides, it wasn't the political or current events discussions that made FC what it was anyway.  Oh sure, the discussions about fucked companies brought in a lot of the old IT crowd, but the thing that really made FC great was the random stuff that could turn up on the board at any time and make us laugh.  People didn't take it all so seriously back then.  You could post something random or off-topic, and people would play along with your troll, providing it was entertaining.  These days, that stuff gets you banned from most forumbs, as they try to appear to have "serious discussions".  It's ironic, random topics get banned on most boards these days because they supposedly interfere with the serious discussions that are taking place, and yet most of the people on message boards can't conduct an intelligent discussion to save their lives anyway.

The sad thing is, I firmly believe that had pud just left the forum up, it would still be there today and similarly as good.

When he closed it down, a lot of the successful people who were just blowing off steam, didn't bother finding the next board. They just went back to daily life. Those were the people who made the forum great. Not the autists, life loser women haters and racists we are mainly left with.

Pud could see the writing on the wall, that's why he took it down.  FC had been gradually declining during the years 2002-2006.  Traffic was dropping away, the number of racists and OCD types was increasing as the old school FC posters gradually left.  The problem with FC was obsolescence.  The image boards like 4chan and so on were gradually taking over.  If FC was still up today, it would probably be just like a lot of the spin-off boards that are still here: Full of OCD drama and life-losers who blame women, jews or blacks for their life problems.

Pud simply moved on with his life, and the rest of us should probably do the same.

One reddit where I used to frequent no longer allows new posters to post without approval because of me. Any hint that I dropped from a new moniker that it is me and instant shadowban. This of course resulted in innocent bystanders getting banned because they use one of my phrases. Those Millenials cannot handle being trolled. At all. :lol:

And that's why there will never be another FC.  People can't handle being trolled (and trolling is basically what message boards are all about).  There's nothing anyone can do on message boards these days except post the same shit over and over again at each other.

If I knew anything about running a message board, I'd set up a troll board where people can go to show off the bans they receive from Nazi boards that go mad with the ban hammer.  You could almost run a monthly competition to see who can get banned from the most boards.

I'm not sure what I'd call it, but you're right, managing it would be a problem.  While it's nice to say I'd have no censorship, I'd have to deal with idiots who wanted to get on and use it to trade child porn and shit like that.  That's why I'll probably never actually do it.
