For the last 20 years every time we have had a Republican president some disaster comes along and throws the country into chaos. With Bush it was 9/11, which he used to get us into two failed wars. Trump treated Coronavirus as a hoax publicly while behind the scenes he was freaking out over the possibility of a huge death toll. 

Ineptitude is expensive.­ And Republicans are just to stupid to be trusted with power. Dems are corrupt but nothing like the Iraq war happened when Clinton or Obama was President.

James Howard Kunstler wrote about this. Kunstler is an old crank but I think he’s right about this.

He said that as the American lifestyle became more expensive and unattainable, due to gas prices and economic instability, people would become more desperate and elect crazier and more despotic leaders who make phony promises to give back “the good old days”. They would get us into more stupid wars and pass more ridiculous economic plans to placate the masses. 

He wrote that in the mid 2000s. I can’t say that he was far off.
