CNN Grounds Its Long-Running Airport Network

CNN Airport, a long-running out-of-home media operation that became an integral part of the traveling experience for people flying through Chicago’s O’Hare, Dallas’ Love Field or even Fresno-Yosemite International Airport, is shutting down, the victim of shifts in consumer behavior that are moving more quickly than a Boeing 737.


CNN said the operation, which aired a mix of news from CNN and snippets from other WarnerMedia networks in 58 different airports in the U.S., would close as of March 31.

“The steep decline in airport traffic because of  COVID-19, coupled with all of the new ways that people are consuming content on their personal devices, has lessened the need for the CNN Airport Network and we had to make the very difficult decision to end its operation,” the AT&T unit said in a statement.

“Having to say goodbye to such a beloved brand is not easy,” said Jeff Zucker, CNN Worldwide’s president, in a statement.

because all their ardent watchers are taking the no-fly trains now.

I cancelled my ATT account yesterday and told them it was because they own CNN. The clerk had to enter that as the reason. No retention effort was made. :lol:

They haven't needed it for a long time.  Could just as easily put CNN there. Hell, put OANN there.

The best part of this news is that it is evidence that they are running out of money. They can't afford to keep paying the airports or staff for it. The airport system gave people the sense that they were the dominant american brand. Now they are just a cable tabloid.

It’s a bunch of talking heads discussing Trump all day. I watch Deutsche Welle and BBC because they cover world news and often cover US politics better than CNN.

They'll never shut CNN off in airports. The Biden administration will fund it. This is just CNN asking for government funding which they will get
