I don't think so. It was 18 years ago in 1959. People moved on and no one was milking a "Pearl Harbor victim's compensation fund" for acid reflux. Time to move along.

They had moved on in Japan after two entire cities were destroyed and hundreds of others firebombed by the US. Millions of people died compared to a few thousand 18 years ago.

It's different when average people actually served in the war. You don't get the same hero worship bullshit because Uncle Bob and Grandpa Jim were actually there, and they're just normal guys and they don't even want to talk about it, and they certainly don't want to be called heroes. The average American is so far removed from 9/11 or the subsequent wars that the hero cult thing takes off to give people a way to feel like they're a part of it.
