Lord Lyon and his office are an example of British bureaucratic cronyism and double-dealing.


For an example of what I am referring to, one need look no further than the chiefship of the MacLeod clan, which (until his recent death) was given to a man born John Wolridge-Gordon, Captain Robert Wolrige-Gordon and his wife Joan Walter.

John Wolridge-Gordon's mother, Joan Walter, was the daughter of Hubert Walter and Flora MacLeod.

Joan Walter's maternal grandfather was Sir Reginald MacLeod, who became chief of the Clan MacLeod after his two elder brothers (the eldest of whom had been the previous clan chief) died without heirs.

Sir Reginald MacLeod, who inherited the chiefship after the death of his eldest brother, had no sons himself, and so the chiefship was allowed to pass to his only child and heir, his daughter Flora, who was married to Mr. Hubert Walter.

When Flora died in 1976, she and her husband had only one child an heir, a daughter, Joan Walter who was married to Capt. Robert Wolrige-Gordon.

So through a twisted bit of finagling, John Wolridge-Gordon, the eldest of Capt. Robert Wolridge-Gordon's sons, was allowed to claim the chiefship of the Clan MacLeod, even though he himself wasn't even a MacLeod, nor were either of his two parents.


You can see with that sort of underhanded double-dealing why one has every right to deal with bureaucratic crooks such as the office of Lord Lyon in the same manner by which they themselves conduct their racketeering and extortion sham.
