You'd think they would find a sympathetic ear among deregulatory Republicans who take great umbrage over any state interference with the free market, but you'd be wrong. Most free-market Republicans have no interest in taking on the car dealers, who are among their strongest local supporters. Since 1990, American car dealers have given more than $66 million to federal candidates, with more than three-quarters going to Republicans."

Why waste your time on :apu: who will take 3 hours of your time each visit and come back 3-4 times (spending 12 hours total), ending up in a $200 minimum commission, when you can instead spend 45 minutes with :littleman: and make a $1,200 commission?

Do the maff.

Not many blacks buying new cars back then especially Japanese cars.

Sell 'em some piece of shit, get 'em some bad credit financing and your F&I guy goes home with a smile.

We don't have a "tote the note" operation for bad credit nogs, but even with those with decent credit, it's quite apparent why they never get ahead in life financially.

For instance, I've sold three late model BMWs to nogs in the past three weeks. Each of them walked out with a car payment of >$700/month. And each one of them was living in rental housing, where their car note was > their monthly rent.

I can't even fathom the concept of not owning a home and yet spending >$700/month on a depreciating asset like a late model car.

Dave Ramsey would have an aneurysm if he saw the nogs that I've sold cars to.

IF YOU CAN'T PAY CASH FOR A CAR, YOU CANNOT AFFORD THAT CAR. BEANS AND RICE, RICE AND BEANS...

I almost walked out right there.. I just did not want to deal with hassle of doing the deal again.

I would have told them to stuff it - my insurance company will do that free.

They passed those laws because both Ford and GM tried to get rid of all their dealerships and set up company outlets. What they ran into was that new car dealerships are the most powerful businesses at a state level.

I actually tried to buy an American car at list price as listed on the internet website.

This, it seems, is not possible. I was finally forced to buy it at a 3500 discount.

Do your research online before walking into a dealership. Know what the dealer cost is and what you're willing to pay. Make a low-ball offer (don't EVER make your first offer the price that you're actually willing to pay - whatever you offer, they will try to bump you - that's why your first offer should always be a low-ball offer - i.e. under dealer cost).

As well, if you're financing, have your financing already lined-up with a credit union or your bank. They (the dealer) will try to coerce you into financing through them - DO NEVER do this - you open yourself up to all kinds of new ways to get fucked.

I  at people who read those car buying books and think they'll out negotiate a car salesman.

Okay, looks good, let me run it by the manager

Lee Iacooka said:Had a customer who did this a few weeks ago and it was pretty smart.

They looked at a late model used car on our lot - did not make an offer, just left. They then went to their bank and told their bank, "this is what we want to buy, and this is the vehicle that we're trading in."

Their bank estimated what the lowest $$$ we could sell the car for and the highest $$$ that we could give for their trade-in, and the bank cut a check, made out to our dealership, for the difference.

They walked in with that check and said, "here's what we'll do."

We tried to bump them - they said, "no."

We then said, "fuck your bank, let us finance it for you through one of our banks." They again said "no - you can either take our bank's check for the difference, or we'll leave and take the check back to our bank."

We ended up selling them the car for their bank's specified price on the car and on their trade-in. Smart move on their part. They got a great deal with no bullshit negotiation involved, because there was no way that we were going to let them walk out with a $20,000 check made out to us from their bank.

Again, the key is to do your homework ahead of time. If you drive up to a dealership with no clue of what you are looking for, you are asking to get fucked sans lube. Any time that someone comes in and says, "we're looking for another car, but we really don't knoa what we want," it's pretty much assured that there will be :a2m: involved once the deal is done.

:hmmm:

I'm not sure this isn't a troll. any decent salesman could have gotten a few hundred more out of them, maybe a thousand. You knew they wanted the car and went to the trouble of doing the research and bringing a check and their trade-in down.
