So I fucked up the Telecommute Policy for a few hundred people.

 Lazy fucks :mittens: Have to get their asses into work.

Basically laid it out to the VP who knows I'm swamped. Told her working at home really isn't working, the phones in the office go unanswered, emails get dealys, can't stop by to ask questions, customers/other people figure out who actually is in the office all the time and those people end up doing the bulk of the work and since they are around, all the urgent work gets dumped on them too.

Then I laid it out - these people are out of the office a min of 20% of the time, add in holidays, vacation and sick days they are not really contributing. Might as well lay them off.

She announced the cancelation at the town hall today.

Why cancel the policy because some people are abusing it?

Tell them they need to be as available as they would be in the office, or they will be fired.

That was the requirement in the first place. Some people were working, but you can't answer your phone or be available for random meetings. That is part of the job.

The reality is in an operations envrionment - you need to be in the office. If you are writing documents or doing bullshit work, you can get away with the home stuff.

What industry are you in?

Telecommuting was always used by middle managers to goof off and not show up for work.

Period. Nobody ever implemented telecommuting for the poor working puke. Nobody cared about him at all.

If you need to have random, unannounced meetings, then your planning skills suck. You should be fired for gross incompetence.

And you will be.

Your :troll: was believable up until that point.

Telecommuting is for the elite. There are cases in which it's used for the real working pukes, but in those cases, it's kept because the previous infrastructure (basically, the office itself) is obliterated and there's no budgeted means of returning to it.

I'd rather be dead, thank you.

I told you before to get the work-from-home arrangement for yourself.

WHO THE FUCK SAID YOU HAD TO, YOU FUCKING IDIOT? You structure your operations around that reality.

The failure of your telecommunications policy is the result of your inability to plan, communicate and manage expectations.

The whole staff should burn the place to the ground and run you out of town.

If I can't see you working, that means you aren't!

"Just got off the phone with our biggest client. They're dumping us. Quick 15 minute meeting to go over the transition process and timeline".

Huh? How does any of the nonsense you just wrote have any bearing on whether or not impromptu meetings are necessary?

So using your logic, all companies should just have one location. Otherwise, what with remote offices, time zones and such, you can't manage by walking around.

"I don't care if it's 3.00 AM where you are! We need to have a random meeting to discuss switching from the Bostich to the Swingline stapler!"

Impromptu meetings are not necessary, that's the point.

We have things like the instant messenger, WebEx and GoToMeeting these days. Even a phone works in a pinch.

Idiot.

Fucking idiot.

I haven't been into my office since December. I try, but I need that extra 45 minutes sleep.

All the same, I work my ass off from home. So I am guessing my Manager does not know the difference.

Remember, if you can telecommute to your job, then so can Sanjay from Bangalore, and Sanjay's a lot fucking cheaper than you are.
