A young adult recently asked me "How could the 1950s have been Americas golden age? It was so primitive back then."

It would be a mistake to underestimate George Martin's role in the group. The White Album was the first Beatles record on which the Beatles' own influence was arguably greater than Martin's.

Take anyone and give them 10,000 hours of practice and of course they'd be good. Malcom Gladwell reported this stuff years ago

Beatles were OK but I think the only one that really had talent was John lennon and to a lesser degree Harrison. McCartney strug it out for the money and Ringo is a fucking moron (like most drummers)

No we didn't turn it into hell..the WWII generation did...they're still in charge...in their 90's...Henry Kissinger, Zbig, David Rockefeller, Maurice Strong. We will never be rid of these fuckers.

The baby boomers are like Prince Charles...he will be outlived by his mother and never accede to power.

They would be SHOCKED that it's legal for men to marry other men, and that courts will give child custody to gays.

They would be SHOCKED that so many children are aborted every year.

We live in a very different world than we did in 1972. And it's not necessarily an improvement.

They wold be SHOCKED at all the Mexicans and Orientals who live in the USA.

People used tube amplifiers and vinyl records, which has actually much better sound quality than CDs and MP3.

WRONG

Addressing this common stupidity on these here ebiz boards should become one of my missions in life.

It's true that the Boomers were born into a great world -- until they faced the prospect of being killed or maimed for life in southeast asia. But the rug was pulled out from under their futures and the future of America forever by the parents of the Boomers.

The central problem of the U.S. today is that it's no longer the U.S. This country is NOTHING like the country the Boomers grew up in. That's not because of anything the Boomers did. The Boomers were kids when their parents turned the U.S. over to a worldful of third-world animals.

Forever.

I feel sorry for the Boomers. They got to see what the U.S. was like. They know what's been lost. And I feel sorry for their kids and grandkids. They can never know what the U.S. was like.

Instead of inheriting the country that their "Greatest" generation grandparents or great-grandparents inherited, they get to live out their lives in the sort of non-American mess the Founders tried to prevent.

"Greatest" generation? How could you hand your children's inheritance over to a worldful of third-world animals?

Have a nice day.

I think the Ted Kennedy generation are the ones that really really fucked it up. They were too young to be GI and too old to be Boomers. They proceeded to shit all over everything while pretending to not exist.

BobHopesColostomyBag said:No something happened in the 60's that has disappeared since. The rise of the baby boom youth movement meant that musicians created a huge new music industry that the recording execs could only exploit frantically, but not control Thus the artists could actually do what they wanted, for better or worse. It was freedom and it was pretty exciting. By the mid seventies this was effectively ended as all the musicians died or were murdered whatever. They were replaced with the same old stale plastic pop groups that existed back in the bad old days. Form over substance, bouncy happy music to keep the slaves content with their miserable lot. No thank you.

Now Gen Y has the internet to use to break free again from the corporate power of the music biz exec and the execs are going crazy trying to stop it at all costs. We shall see.

The subject matter of songs from the 1960s was about living life. I can't say who was directly responsible for it but the music was about mundane things that people do every day.

Since the 90s the music has been about fantasy romance for women and just fucking for young males. Older men don't listen to this music.

There are a few exceptions that are wonderful but they are rare. Lady Antebellum did a throwback to music about living life and went mainstream from just country because of this; for example.

Listen to Gary Puckett, most songs were about lusting for underage girls.

I met hime in the 80's in Japan, one of the few who didn't totally sell out. Shared about 10 beers, plus he signed a album cover for me.
