I adore him. Can you imagine a Fellini film without a Rota score?

Morricone did a few of my favorites:

Once Upon A Time In The West
The Mission
Cinema Paradiso.

The film "Grizzly Man" has a Special Feature on the making of the sound track that is better than the film itself, imho.

Other good compilation soundtracks:

Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Wonder Boys
Crazy Heart
Somewhere In Time

Bernard Herrmann and Ennio Morricone are my favorite film score composers.

Trainspotting probably has the best original soundtrack.

Soundtracks...most any Wes Anderson or Tarantino flick has good ones. Natural Born Killers, too, though I think a lot of that was due to Trent Reznor.

Scores, however...most were already mentioned in this thread already, but I love the scores for most of John Carpenter's stuff, plus anything by Goblin (Argento films).

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

I second what the previous poster said about the "Special Feature" on the Grizzly Man DVD. It's awesome.

Most Blaxploitation movies had great soundtracks.

And I didn't mention Vic Mizzy or Neal Hefti. There's more to add, but these are off the top o' me 'ead.

I didn't know that Hefti did film work. I always thought of him as a Basie arranger. Go figure.

Not a movie, but I always liked that whole album.

I'll bet Carol Kaye is on it, Candoli, etc. That particular song would make a good big band arrangement.

I agree.

P.S. Dare you to get this out of your head in the next few days. Especially at work. Try to keep it in your head only, son.

BTW, you tards should seek out Shake Sauvage or Vampyros Lesbos. Nice euro, cocktail hour pop sounds.

Not one mention of the Rocky series or the greatest soundtrack song ever, Karate Kids "Youre the Best"?

Really?

Naw, they're just morons. Some dufus was telling Hitchcock of the importance of a good score in movies. He responded by making a movie without one and no one noticed

A lot of the rest of the original 'Shaft' album is pretty cool.

This one is way too obvious

But I love how this chick does the vocals without a trace of irony. There's a lot to be said for that. The time for irony is over.

 that's awesome. I like how the level of the vocals is raised for every "african".
