don't get me wrong, the game itself is awesome. but the launch platform -- this weird web-based matchmaking service that you have to run the game through -- is retarded. i swore the last time i had to put up with shit like that (GTA IV and its bloated, built-in software add-ons like rockstar social club and GFWL) that i would never subject myself to this bullshit again.
Good I was going to download it until I came up against that shite. Go out and BUY Arma II Operation Arrowhead for the full deal Seriously you won't regret it. I'll get Arrowhead and add it to my basic one too and we'll play online

I've been playing the beta all week and I'm going to reserve judgement. However, the glitches and weird holes in the programming is the worst I've ever seen in a beta for any game let alone one this huge. Shit beta, is all I can say. But, hopefully the bugs will get ironed out and I get to fly the JETS!!!! Haven't seen jets since the PC version of Battlefield 2.

Also there is something even worse than that; the kids...the obnoxious gibbering idiots. Lord what scum. And the game is glorious an amazing environment but unless you're at Operation Reality you're in with a mob of idiots...I hate the madness of it all
i forgot to add that i got to play on the caspian border map for a while, which is a 64-player map and has all vehicles (including jets). that's what i was judging the game on. the operation metro map is pretty buggy and bland, but once you get to see the game itself, it's pretty fucking amazing. so, so, so far beyond anything that's ever come before it.
it's just such a damn shame about their stupid new services.
i have arrowhead. no matter what i do, no matter how hard i try, i cannot play that game. it just will not stop crashing. i have tried every driver in existence, even did a format + fresh OS install. can't play that game for more than five minutes w/o a crash to desktop.
nothing same-same about this game at all. it's a true leap forward, thanks mostly to the physics engine. the destruction is truly amazing. it doesn't even feel like a video game. and that's the highest compliment i can think of.
scroll ahead to 0:40, and watch the blast. that's what happens when you throw a grenade into a building.
i've heard some people complaining of screen tearing and other graphical oddities, but the game works 100% for me. never a single problem. even maxed out, i get a solid 60fps.
battlefield 3 with 64 people + full vehicles is really, really, just totally ridiculous. jets fighting overhead, tanks driving through buildings, shooting your rifle at someone from inside an office complex and watching as your bullets shatter a 20ft-tall glass partition and the whole thing comes crashing down around you, grenades and rockets that hit so hard and do so much damage to the environment that you flinch irl, using your machine gun to suppress a whole squad of enemy players (when you're under suppressive fire, your screen blurs and everything and you're at a distinct disadvantage) ...
i was trying to kill these two snipers who were camping at the foot of this tower, so i shot an RPG at them, and the impact (maybe 4ft from their position) against the building caused the whole facade to buckle, and huge chunks of masonry came crashing down and smooshed both the snipers, and even dented the pavement.
understand. did you ever play bad company 2? dude, the physics in these latest battlefield games is a sight to behold. the realistic destruction makes them like nothing else on the market. sniper in a house? blow the wall off with a tank, or your grenade launcher, or just call in a mortar strike and collapse the whole structure with him inside ...

I haven't played the beta but is seems like there's been a ton of bitch'n from the fanboi community about it. You think DICE can pull this one off or did they set expectation levels too high?
