I find most graphic artists and designers have the ability to meet deadlines and handle themselves professionally. There is a certain flakiness when you are trying to get a project started, but if I can deal with that because they come through in the end.

I've also worked with artists for exhibits- from getting the grant to removing the installation. One of the guys didn't use a computer and his whole project was based on traveling. Of course, part of the project was a blog and GPS tracking- so that was fun to manage.

My organization also hosts other artists for bits of related exhibits. Just this summer we had a bunch creating sculpture from scavenged materials here, which they used in a traveling carnival/parade thing. These artists are generally a lot flakier than the graphics folks, but they also usually have someone (curator, wife, or someone chosen from their ranks) who at least answers emails.
