The reason why they don't buy a superior entertainment system like the PS3 or XBOX 360 (which I told my mom before she spent $200 on a blu ray player that the $300 PS3 was vastly superior) is because they are incapable of understanding the controls to play the games. Most of us who fire up games adapt almost instantly to a new game control structure. But to a booze, Quaalude, cocaine, and nicotine stained feckless boomer such structures are too difficult to understand.
They couldn't understand the controls to play Deus Ex Human Revolution even if I personally came to their house and held their filthy old balls and hands to teach them.
Boomers lack the ability to adapt.
They like to brag about having the most assets, which they do, but they also have the most liabilities.

Modern video games are for the most part just boring interactive movies. There's no challenge in playing them. Video games of old are easy to pick up and play but difficult to master and that's the way I like it.
Modern videogames are an excellent simulation for strategy. A person shouldn't spend days and nights trying to excel with these games....I have my rented deus ex and my xbox running for at least a week without a mere dollop of joystick manipulation...games are a good mental workout.

Tom Wolfe wrote something about the "scene" in some hipster community in Mexico during the late 1960s. It was all about how these broken-down old wrecks in their 30s and 40s who had shown up there earlier were all trying to suck up to the new generation of late-1960s hippies, and failing miserably. It was pretty withering.
So dood, how about those clueless old boombers? Not hip to the bleeding-edge gamer scene like you and I, nudge nudge?

There was an interview with the ' Grand Champion ' of Guitar Hero. A little boy probably 15 years old. He was asked about his practicing and whatnot that made him so good. Then the reporter asked if he would take the next step and learn to play a real guitar?
" Ummm....no because a real guitar has like strings on it that would hurt my fingers. "
Boomers are old, have health problems, pensions which won't likely pay out for five or more years. Little savings, lots of assets but tons of liabilities. Age 55+, unable to adapt to new technology, use tablets to surf the web. If they own their own businesses they are clueless about modern marketing, are lost in a haze of obscure technological fog. Retaining top positions with top companies but contributing few creative ideas. Merely smashing their fists on derelict slabs of oak desks, meekly requiring assistants to fluff up their fake plants in their offices. Offering up sophomoric but aged smiles to gen X sales people who are making the real dough.
Incompetent and old, lacking in vision, voted for Obama because of some garbage called hope and change. Fucking whores behind their fugly wife's backs.
Fearing the inability of retirement due to impossible monthly liabilities.
