It had nothing to do with the arab society persey for it was the secret police who would have exacted this revenge. Their goal was to drive the point home to others that if you cross them you will be punished. A live humiliated and degraded journalist would better express this point then a dead one.
But sharia does blame the rape victim. Her rapists did have the mindset that she was a whore trapsing around empowered by her western femists ideology. I know we need to be careful when we judge a whole culture. But i think we can safely assume that the average egyptian muslim does in fact blame the victim and at some level sees logan as a temptress. Even here in the west many still blame the victim. Remember Nir Rosen. But if you consider the frequency of governement sponsored sexual assault in Egypt and juxtapose that with public response, there is a disconnect. My point is that the egyptian people are really not angry enough about there government sponsoring sexual assault. This tells me that large segments of the society more or less approve of rape as a weapon. Many egyptians do see these female protestors and journalists as whores. If you go back and read the initial articles about the virginity tests and see the general who made the excuse that it was ok because these protestors were not vituous women, you get a sense of the kind of mentality we are dealing with. These people are too ignorant to feel properly ashamed. And let's not forget that the koran does support this ignorance.

Good analysis. I think that this analysis is a good addendum to Masked Truths Abduction thesis.
I still have to point out that some Egyptians really tried to apologize for what happened to Lara Logan on her facebook page. There are still glimmers of hope in a nest of darkness.

These were not rabbit ears but VICTORY signs. We know that these dudes were not the rapists.

I would not say that they are too ignorant but it is how those in power want it. If they tell them that it is ok then it is ok these people only do as their government will allow. Those in power hold the cards and those that protest get more attacks. The attack if it was the common man would have been on display for all too see and with nothing coming to light as of yet then it is government. You also must realize that eygpt is not ran by sharia law. It is practiced there like many other countries but so is buddist and catholic religons. The Koran like any other bible of its type is misrepresented many different ways.
Really, time to move on. Do it for Lara. I'm sure she's watching.
You...do not know...what a thesis is. O_O
Oookay. And YOU...tell others that they...are losers? Ok..Okay.
Puh. And...and...YOU...are an american? Right? Okay. Wow. Good. I wish you a nice Weekend. Tell your brother PLUTO he is one of the weirdest looking people on earth. I am a Fan of your movie THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Glad that your family now has internet connection. It was about time.

You must look beyond the common man because who conducted the virginity tests? Why? Unlike this country and many others they are still told what they should feel by the government. The military claims to be for the people but in truth they run the people. You protest they will visit your house, virginity tests with pictures to humiliate and degrade you and if questioned, degrade you even more and bring shame down upon the family to keep their thumbs on the people. If you do as they say you will be happy but cross them and doom on you.

If you remember she shot an hour of footage before the attack and the people rejoiced to see the press and show their victory. Out of the blue she gets attacked and it is the people who rejoiced just prior doing the attack? That period of time is similar in nature to the american and french revolutions for during celebrations you have the mix of the two fighting parties in the crowds. Those who won and those who lost but act like they are on the side of the winners. The losers act out to bring shame and discredit the winners in hopes that they will bring favor upon themselves.

This is a basic follow the power type of story. If you follow who was in power, who had something to gain, who had something to lose, what was the end game?

In Iraq Saddam's sons use to kidnap woman of the street and take them to "Rape" rooms and assault them for hours. Just because they could do so without any trouble and thought nothing wrong about it and then dump the woman in the street, somewhere.

Lara was also quoted as saying that it was the Secret Police that attacked her. Who's to say that they told her "We told you not to come back" Now we show you what happens!

Some of the Secret Police probably raped her also.

Why didn't the American Embassy in Cairo do more to pursue her attackers? Doesn't the people in the embassy have diplomatic immunity? Whenever I hear diplomatic immunity, I think of this scene:
