North Precinct detectives continue looking for the gunman responsible for Thursday’s shooting death of 18-year-old Rockwell Montanez outside the KFC restaurant at 2910 Clarksville Pike.
Montanez, of 16th Avenue North, was standing in front of the building when he was confronted at 6:05 p.m. Multiple shots were fired. He was hit at least one time and staggered into the restaurant where he died. The gunman ran south on Clarksville Pike and across the Bordeaux Bridge. A police dog tracked the suspect to a fence that surrounds River Terrace Apartments.
A pistol was recovered at the shooting scene. It has not been determined whether it was being carried by Montanez or his assailant.
The motive for the shooting has not been established.
