Her son is a smarmy mortgage broker who got his start in a boiler room calling guys like this and convincing them that getting a mortgage was the answer to their prayers:
You'll lend me $750? OK!

When I suggest that if her numbers are accurate, then her son must have some bad habits and expenditures that he doesn't like to talk about, she bites my head off.
I need to see these people this weekend. Should I try to hold an intervention or what?
I have to listen to her brag about her son, sort of suggesting that she's a superior human being and we're a bunch of losers.
He makes his money selling risking mortgages to people who can't afford them. That really chaps my ass. She doesn't seem to see it that way.
He's even gone so far to extending his services to naive young people in the family. In my opinion, these people who got loans through him are overextended.

I cut shit like that off by saying "I don't like to talk about money." and leave it at that. Talking about other people's income is fucking lame.

I had to say that to my SiL last Xmas. She was talking about how much her house is supposedly worth, and how great her credit rating supposedly, meanwhile she makes $1000 a month as a teaching assistant. So annoying.
