I would be buying bulk items like ammunition, salt, medicines, alcohol, first aid products, condoms, etc. Things that are needed and can be traded. Even a deck of cards can be traded.

Fish are an excellent fertilizer. If you have a garden, you're supposed to fetch fish guts and fish heads from your local market (they are free) and then you put some in each major planting location, like each tomato plant and each cucumber plant. They grow like mad when the roots reach that rotting stuff.

Britfags are especially vulnerable to food shortages since we import most of our stuff (as the Germans knew well in both world wars). I think there should be a new Dig For Victory campaign with vids on youtube. Still, people being people will probably ignore it until it's far too late. One interesting thing to note was that the britfag population was at its most healthiest right after WW2. Little fat, grease and sugar back then.

If you can keep chicken for eggs that's a great source of protein. Grain is cheap and they require hardly any maintenance. Just build a sturdy pen and coop and keep them watered and fed. Keep the hens and eat the roosters.

The guts and heads are buried. And you're supposed to keep raccoons and the like out of your garden anyway. Chicken wire, dude.
Seaweed is a better fertilizer. Also a good food source. East coast varieties can be boiled. A thickener is released and could be used as a thickener. It's the stuff they put in ice cream.

Havesting seaweed seems like an entire other order of agricultural knowledge. If you're going to go to those lengths, it seems better to form pens in the sea using plastic nets, and just raise fish and shrimp in the pens.

This happened in my very expensive coastal town. People were getting citations for keeping chickens, so they changed the zoning laws. People claimed they needed the chickens because food was getting too expensive.
