You bet your behind I am going to, those saints you are revering weren't always so saintly. St. Jean d'Arc is a good example. Take all religions over all time into account and it is by far going to prove to be one of the most destructive forces we ever created.
11Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.12The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.13Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts."
In other words obey the overlords because god gave them to the power to control you. Religion, a crutch to be used in this instance, by those in power to keep people in line.
There is nothing in this world that is "other-than-natural". All those qualities you listed are explainable in and by nature. For fuck sake they are doing research now into the knowledge of fairness in dogs. Just because there isn't a full scientific explanation now doesn't mean there won't be one in the future.
What appears to be narrow about your view is that you seem to think it is all about survival of an individual genome at any cost and it isn't. Much research is pointing to evolution being more about the survival of the species as a whole which includes behaviors that may be anti-survival for an individual.
It scares the hell out of me that you and others feel that the only way that people can be good to each other is by "transcending" ourselves. That only by "god's grace" can we love each other. What a dismal view of human kind it is to think that we don't have it in ourselves what it takes to admire or at least respect the humanity in our fellow men.
You just proved my point that religion is a crutch with that quote, "put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts thereof". Have you read the rest of that chapter putting that quote into context?
"1Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.2Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.3For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same;4for it is a minister of God to you f
No reason to be good without religion? C'mon, you have to be kidding. We are back to your limitations due to your narrow view of evolution. "Being good" another way of saying not to engage in destructive behavior is species sustaining. Nothing religious about it. Religion is used as a crutch, a self imposed reason to not kill each other(at least the ones that believe as you do) and a way to explain that which was unexplainable at one time.
Darlin' I was raised Catholic, educated by Jesuits thru high school and come from a family steeped in the writings of Catholic theologians and philosophers. I have read them all and know just about all the popular rationalizations. I am not angry despite what you may think.
Your premise is incorrect. The alternative to religious belief is not unrestrained (implied "bad") behavior. You do not need to subscribe to a religion to behave in a moral and productive manner. Religion is/was a teaching tool that has been completely corrupted and no longer necessary. I suggest you do a bit of reading and research. You can start here...
I have explored many religions. Yes, partly because I wasn't buying the dogma that I was raised with but, mainly because I was smart enough to know that you don't follow any proscribed system of beliefs without exploring where it came from, how it evolved and the veracity of it's basic premises. Once that exploration was embarked upon it became clear that religion is a maladaptive coping mechanism that has outlived it's usefulness. Once we got to the point that acts of nature could be explained we no longer needed to make up a rescuing deity. As far as an unwillingness to "obey" I don't see any reason to "obey" some entity that decides that because I have ovaries I am somehow less able aka inferior to someone with testes, as most religions do.
Bible? What the fuck, like that is the definitive religious text? There isn't a religion out there that isn't totally full of made up shit that I disagree with.
I don't have to prove that a god does or does not exist. If one does it is irrelevant because he obviously got a lot of shit way wrong. If he doesn't, then we are getting it wrong. Either way a lot of shit in this world is just fucking wrong. And as far as I am concerned we have to rely on ourselves to fix it.
I got one at Kmart that could be a really high twin sized or put together to make a really big double, paid around 60 for it and it has lasted for years. I think it was a Coleman's and has a motor to inflate it.
He got warnings in the original thread, including at least one from me. He just went on an on revealing more and more traceable info. He was an asshole spouting bullshit racist nonsense and he got burned for it. Deservedly. EOT.
Anonymous my ass. Nothing is truly anonymous in this society anymore. And if you have been on any of the red boards for any length of time you have seen graphic examples of that. FFFNJ's situation is just one of the latest. The overall ethic of the red boards has always been "If you can't take the heat get the fuck out of the kitchen".
Bullshit. He was a racist fuck who may have broken the law and was at the very least a complete idiot for advertising his fucked up attitudes in an easily traced manner. He got exactly what he deserved.
I have no idea if he actually had grounds for firing the person he talked about but, he made it real easy for the person to fight it if he didn't. His employer should have canned HIM.
