Wasn't there a new report out suggesting that the whole 'tunnel of light' thing may be an evolutionary throwback. The theory goes that if someone is approaching death (due to being attacked by a predator), the brain will exude natural pain killers and relaxants, realizing that there is no point in further struggle.
