Most, if not all, of the CSU schools are fourth tier.
All of the U.C. schools are third tier, with most being in the second (top 100) tier.
If UNR is in the third tier, this means that it is in the top 150 universities in the country. While this is nothing to write home about, relative to the average university it is quite good. UNLV, a larger school, is fourth tier.
None. Those companies don't have to recruit at UNR because they can find everything they need at schools that provide higher quality assurance regarding MBA grads (top 25). This doesn't mean that a UNR grad has no chance of being hired by those companies. What it does mean is that a UNR grad will have to go through extra hoops to get their attention.
This doesn't mean that it isn't any good or that it eventually won't be accredited. You need to take the GMAT to get in. 1/3 of the people who register for the GMAT chickenshit out of it and don't bother taking it. Sidenote.
But, if you look at the available classes, the breadth of knowledge one could acquire, the difference is striking.
I think the education there is very good. I've been to USC and U.C. Berkeley. The difference between UNR and say a Tier 1 school is not in quality of education, in general. Rather, the difference is the quality of students. At UNR, the quality of students has much greater variation. The probability density curve (of quality in student body) is much wider. At Berkeley, in comparison to UNR, the curve would be far more narrow. So, at a school like UNR you need to seek the top 10% of students, continually.
Another difference is that the professors at UNR, in general, are very good, well published, but are not as gifted at churning out other top academics as a Tier 1 school. They make good professors but aren't as capable of mentoring/creating other professors.
UNR does a lot with the available funds that is has - which isn't much. So, you get a lot of bang for your buck. It is superior to most other public state institutions. An example of this would be to compare UNR to any school in the cal state system. No cal state school (and that includes Humboldt, which James dropped out of) to my knowledge compares to the quality of education one would receive at UNR.
Get into a grad program in international studies...government...etc in an excellent school like georgetown...assuming you didn't want to go to law school.
