It's going to take months to do the ground testing, drill, insert and detonate one of those. There's no easy solution to this one. If the the relief well they're drilling right now fails then I predict that'll be what they'll do. It might take them some time though and that is disastrous. I am usually skeptical about lengthy grad programs that are not geared toward a professional degree, but in cases like yours where a good portion of the courses are done already (like some undergrad classes count) and there is minor time/money investment, figure why not. It would be a shame not to get the masters under those conditions.

Grad school is usually not that hard to get into and not that hard to finish. Just don't become a grad school fossil, finish the courses fast and keep the momentum up. Don't get caught up in the dramas of the faculty vs grad student wars or the dramas of teaching the undergrads and scoring their papers etc.
