Seeing Ferret meltdown in the teapots thread was phenomenal entertainment. Although I did feel a bit of sympathy for the failure, it was still hilarious.
All of the finger pointing. The excuses. The denials. Pissing on poor teapots because teapots has a degree, a work ethic, a job, and a personality.
Fun fact: ferret pissed on teapots when teapots demonstrated in the (G8?) summit meeting in Toronto. Everyone had to point out to Ferret that at least teapots had the guts to protest on a real street with conviction.
Ferret's ass must be really sore this morning. After getting assailed in that teapots thread, he didn't even bother defending himself. He just hoped it will all go away.
It won't.
It was better than his documentary about his bike trip to the liquor store.
For management it is definitely worth it. Consider Sociology or even Anthropology.
Anthropology concentrates heavily on "evolutionary" thinking. Natural selection, gene flow, genetic drift, all which can be applied to business processes.
For a profession such as accounting, the top three firms do want a 3.3 or above. It could be 3.5 by now.
For management consulting, you have to have good grades and the ability to "ace your case".
It's competitive out there, but doable.
The key is to do a better job than most of the other students. Plus, if the professor really likes you, he might bump you up half a grade if you are on the margin.
Word. And a lot of government jobs at the managerial level do want a master's degree. It's just a way of thinning the herd. You can have a master's in gender studies. They don't care.
I recently read an article that described the grade "tiers" of university students in the U.K.
Essentially, those with below the equivalent of a U.S. 3.0 GPA in the U.K. are looked at as third-rate job candidates. Those with 3.3 GPA's are second rate, while 3.5 or above are first rate (first choice) candidates.
And what you got your degree in doesn't matter nearly as much as people believe. However, it does help to bolster a B.A. with a slew of biz courses.
You at least have the sense to go. I have an aunt that got a master's in psychology in her fifties. Now she is in her sixties and has some plum government "director" psych job, and is making six figures.
Ferret should see a therapist. I saw a therapist when I attended USC. I saw him for three months. He forced me to own up to my own bad choices in life (up to that point). It hurt like hell to hear it, but ultimately my position in life was my own damn fault. And it was up to me to fix it.
And I did, mostly. Still working on a few things. :)
No wonder why Michele doesn't want to see him anymore.
What Ferret doesn't understand is that simple bullshitting (not lying, but shooting the shit) goes a long way.
He wants to start off as a Vice President. In reality he will have to start off at the bottom. Even James does that, and knows what it takes.
Although there is some age discrimination in the marketplace, a lot of people aren't going to write you off just because you look older (gray hair, etc). If you are serious about the position and click with the interviewer, then you have a good chance.
Teapots has a good work ethic and it shows. Ferret has zero work ethic and it shows.
All of this commentary about Poo-pooing UNR as a shit school, that the grad program must suck, it's a waste of money - what he fails to understand is that a degree is a basic barometer for any type of decent gig.
A woman I know is a genders studies grad from a middle-tier university but was recently promoted to a manager of her department. She doesn't speak business quite yet but she's a solid leader.
Ferret, your only hope is to enroll in school and get a part-time job. Get to know people. Attend networking events. Complete your degree even if it takes years (and it likely will).
THAT IS HOW IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN. GOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the record, Ferret, I have never gotten a real job (and that was paid programmer, back in the day) via sending out resumes. It was always through a friend, or even a networking event.
By the time I am done with this thread we'll be at ten pages. I am going to provide a page or two of commentary. Not that my comments are all that neat. I just can't help myself.
