Great question!

I did not see any. Just driftwood, razor clam shells, bird feathers, and occasional sand dollars.

Nice area, but inland.

Nothing as soothing as the sound of the surf.

I'd live there and let the tsunami take me away.

:nono:

We do tsunami drills here routinely.

We have tsunami warning sirens, too.

Yes. Last 5 weeks.

There is some similarity with Ecuador. Things here in Clatsop County just don't work at 100% efficiency, like in LA.

What do you do for fun there?

Regatta weekend in Astoria...oldest west of the Mississippi.

Walk on the beach.

Great beer here. And Duck Pond wines, too.

The Dems need to keep the tax return issue in play. Harry Reid set up the vollyball for a slam dunk at the convention.

Romney needs to put this issue behind him, but he does not seem to want to do it.

If he REALLY did not pay taxes EVER (except that one year), he is a cooked goose politically. If it was only for 10 years, he is still fucked.

Red wine by the gallon from Mills Winery near Sacramento. $1/gallon. It came in a glass bottle better fit to hold bleach. Tasted awful until about the 8th glass.

Add to the downsides:

electrical power which fails whenever the wind blows (you need a generator)

a real struggle to use any credit card for purchases---the merchant's machine is broken often (and they do try)

don't care about any modern convenience, as long as I have food, water, dwelling, peace, I am good.

How hard are those things to come by?

All are very easy to have here.

Peace at night can be broken by:

----stray dogs barking

----church bells clanging

----large festivals in your local pueblo

Ecuadoreans are not black, Jethro.

There is actually a large colony of black Ecuadorians near Ibarra---they were brought here as slaves, of course.

If you look at the expat sites, the answer is yes.

Rent is $300/month. Food another $200. Utilities ~ $30. If you own a house, property tax is $20/year.

Don't get me wrong. There are a lot of reasons that Ecuador is not ideal:

dust---lots of dust everywhere

water---can't drink it. Sometimes it even smells vaguely of raw sewage. Must buy bottled water = $2 for a large water-cooler sized jug.

Construction---lack of building regulations and zoning means shoddy work, especially electrical. And, your $60k mantion could end up next to a diesel engine repair shop on one side and a cow farm on the other.

Sewers---can't handle toilet paper. Please place it in the basket next to the toilet.

Is it easy for Americans to get pretty teenager girls down there?

I sort of doubt it. You would have to speak Spanish. And be Catholic.

Do you qualify?

BTW, the teens here are well behaved and, like girls everywhere, buried in their cell phones.

Then I posted the Belize murder rate for him (39/100,000, which is 8 times greater than USA's murder rate), and his interest in Belize vanished.

I hope you live your entire life without being murdered.
