The strip is a fucking zoo on NY eve. Casinos will close their doors to the strip and getting across LV Blvd will take hours. DO NOT GET CAUGHT ON THE SIDE OPPOSITE YOUR HOTEL.

Most of the casinos now have girls dancing in cages next to the betting tables. I don't remember seeing that before.

Hmmm....I don't remember that from 9 months ago.

What has invaded Vegas over the last 6 years, or so, are penny slot machines.

Folks, this is why you want to have a minimum of a years salary on hand. So when the boss says 'or else', you can say fuck you.

In 30+ years of management including enterprises of 1,000 employees and a budget of $110 million, I never denied anybody vacation leave for any reason UNLESS I THOUGH THEY WERE LYING TO ME. I probably denied 3 or 4 requests in all that time.

Good organizations need good empolyees who have a great balance of home, work, and community live.

Otherwise, it is just exploitation.

Could I talk you out of a fully loaded 640K memory board?

I probably threw $50K of stuff (retail-priced) away that I got from engineering. i wasn't a programmer, just thought that my friends could use it, but never ended giving it away because it meant i was their 24/7 tech support team.

that company rocked for about 6 years, then slowly disintegrated. i should be fucking retired now.

:sadbanana:

I threw away a rack mount 800bpi tape drive. Prolly cost $5k or more when new. It had the card to link to a 386 PC.

Just heavy junk.

. said:You ever use paper tape? I used yellow paper tape on a teletype.

You'd carry around your programs in these giant fucking rolls of paper tape with holes in them. You'd feed the paper tape into the machine and it would type back what it printed before.

To save your program, you'd list it and turn on the paper tape machine.

People would leave their paper tape shit all over the room. And you'd always get your roll of paper tape mixed up with theirs. Fucking nightmare.

It was so nice going from that to tape casettes.

Yes. On a PDP-11. Rack mount....it was supposed to be the single computer to handle the budget for a $10billion enterprise.

No privacy?

Fuck no. You could punch any of the 11 channel buttons and, if they were active, listen in. Or, you could listen on any shortwave receiver. The frequency was blocked from intruder use by a series of beeps followed by a female voice announcing "Mobilephone Los Angeles."

Mobile marine telephone is also very old, both VHF and short wave.

Do you still have the phone? It could be worth something.

sandman said:I still don't understand how a metal rod can pick up a "frequency" and transmit the minuscule amount of electromagnetic energy to a quartz or crystal "tuner", where this energy is somehow amplified into a useable signal.

The energy emitted from a typical broadcast or ever a cell phone is very, VERY weak.

And radio started out as an entertainment medium and now it just sucks.

a direct dialed call from the us to uk without an international plan is 4.56 per minute.

However, unlike in the 1950s, there is nobody worth talking to in the UK.
