So, they'll make 300k pre-tax until they are 60-65 then take off for retirement.

Everything is paid for, 6k a month + savings and investments then a fat health care policy to boot. Gubment employees have it pretty easy, if you can put up with not acomplishing anything in the public sector.

Depends on where you're willing to live. There are lots of little towns all over America where you can still buy a house for less than $200k and the cost of living is next to nothing. You could comfortably kick back and watch TV for 30 years on a million in one of those places.

If you want to live in a desirable city (or retirement destination), you'd need at least $2-4 million, depending on how you spend.
