The degree to which lack of discourse, or lack of choices, is a bigger hindrance, is open to much worthy debate. There is a lot of mention in the media about Romney's religious beliefs, but in a true democracy, it would not be of any concern. The fact that religion is significant in this situation is certainly due to media influence, since it is the foil, or opposite, to Obama's apparent egalitarian manner.

If it was a true democracy, where the validity of the candidates was considered, the individual beliefs of those people would not be relevant; since their policies wold do the talking. But this is America, and a straightforward election based on policies and ideologies would not get much attention, it has to be turned in to a 'media event' to get any attention from the voters. Politics in America is unlike no other nation.

So, Americans should start getting used to Obama. There is no useful political discourse in America, and that is one of the biggest hindrances to a better democracy.
