Is that a cat litter box in the bedroom?

Mascara said:That sucks. In the city it's hard with surrounding buildings.

I got the cats a new cat condo today, it's almost 7 feet high, carpeted, has 6 levels and a little house. They're lounging around on it with the window open, because it is hot here. I deliberately placed it in front of a window where tons of birds, squirrels and chipmunks come to the feeder outside, and they went nuts.

I've had the back door open most of the day and mine are going squirrely. They want outside.

Mascara said:Basil is difficult unless you are watering it every day, and have it in kind of sandy soil. If I grow it outside I have to water it and pinch it all the time. Lemon thyme could survive in a sunny little window if you water it once a week. It's really yummy.

This was just in a little ceramic pot, it came like that from the garden store. I can't get more than a handful of hours of direct sunlight in this apartment, though.

Mascara said:Use the one I posted, and use panko, and lemon thyme. They usually have that at garden shops-just get a little plant and keep it in a window. I throw it in everything.

I tried keeping a basil plant last summer, but it was a struggle. Even though my back porch faces east there's an overhang that prevents direct sunlight from mid-morning on.

I normally add the zucchini, the asparagus was a first.

Mascara said:I have an amazing swordfish recipe if you ever want it. Just PM me.

Try it Sicilian style, with a butter-lemon-mustard sauce. It's out of this world.

This recipe is pretty close to the way I make it, a little complicated but it's worth it. If you have a food processor, it's pretty easy, just a lot of steps.

http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/marinated-fish-with-salmoriglio-sauce

If you can find lemon thyme, use that. I grow it in a pot indoors just so I can make this.

Yeah, send me the swordfish recipe in email.

Mascara said:What kind of fish do you regularly get up there? Here it is typical New England: cod, lobsters, scrod, haddock, hake, scallops, clams, and mussels.

One thing about the West Coast is that you can get King crab, Pacific oysters, swordfish, and they have that Sourdough bread.

Usually whatever looks fresh.

I have an allergy that prevents me from eating most seafood. Basically anything with a shell is out.

I love swordfish.

Mascara said:Um, I'd take the potatoes and cut them up, and toss them with olive oil, and put them in a separate baking pan, because the drippings will make them really soggy.

I usually cut potatoes up and toss them with oregano, lemon juice, coarse sea salt, pepper and olive oil and roast them that way, but since this chicken has a n oriental flavor it might not really work.

Oh, and save the chicken carcass, and make soup out of it. Just boil it, let it cool, strip the meat off the bones, and add some onion and noodles and carrots and whatever else you want. It's amazing.

We have one of those George Forman grills so 90% of the time we buy chicken breasts instead of whole chickens to roast.

I'll see if I can get some chicken from the butcher. There's a seafood store right next to a cheese store near my house, I'm tempted to get fish.

Mascara said:It's pretty easy. Like I said, you just buy a roasting chicken, remove the little package of giblets and the neck (you can see if the cats want them) and stuff it with cooked brown rice. Then put it in a baking pan on a rack, rub the soy sauce and ginger mixture all over it, and add some water to the pan so the marinade doesn't burn. The drippings will mix with the marinade and make a gravy.

If you don't have a pan with a rack, just add water to the baking pan. It also keeps it moist.

Bake at about 375-400 for probably 45 min-hour. You can just check on it and you will know when it is done.

All my single male friends ask me for recipes to make when they make dinner for girls. I always give them this one because it is so easy, and they always come back and tell me how the girl was so impressed.

Sounds good. Can you just throw the potatoes into the pan?

Mascara said:If I have a really busy week I'll get a big one. It will last us for two meals, usually sandwiches the second night, then I make stock out of it, or soup.

You really should try that recipe with the ginger and soy sauce. It's amazing, and really simple. Make it for Miyu.

I've never roasted a chicken, I don't think. At least I don't remember doing it.

Mascara said:I usually get one of those roasted chickens at the store if I'm busy, or if I am home I roast one myself.

Just get a big roasting chicken, take out the giblets, then mix some soy sauce and minced ginger in a bowl, and drizzle that all over the outside. Baste it with it every 15-20 minutes while you are cooking it. It's even better if you stuff it with brown rice.

I've never gotten one of those roasted chickens but I keep hearing about how convenient they are.

Mascara said:Sounds amazing. How are you feeling?

I'm making chicken stock tonight, which I'll use this week for a couple of dishes I have planned. A roasted chicken carcass, a couple of ribs of celery, garlic, ginger, freshly cracked pepper, and half an onion.

Feeling fine right now. Going into the beaches tomorrow to re-stock on groceries, I should pick up some chicken. I love roasted mini-potatoes.

Mascara said:That sounds fantastic. Pasta sauce should be simple. I hate it when people make that Ragu style sauce with ground beef, mushrooms, onions, and a ton of other stuff in the sauce, and then throw Kraft cheddar cheese on it, then put it in front of me.

I was worried about the asparagus because they're mostly stalks. But I let it simmer for about an hour and they softened up nicely.

It has asparagus, red peppers, zucchini and plum tomatoes in a plain sauce with fresh fettuccine noodles and real Parmesan cheese.

What does "totally different person" have to do with anything.

He's running a play-by-play in 5 different threads about everything I post yet complains that there's too many posts about me.

What does it matter who he is?
