Unless you live in the mountains of bumfuck China, there's a restaurant or other activity going on in a 50 mile radius of where you live. That's where people go on dates, it doesn't require some arcane knowledge.

Personally I've only ever dated women I know from mutual friends or social activities so I've never had an awkward date per se, I already knew I was compatible with them and already familiar with them before we've even went out.

If you've never been on a date before now is the time to start, it's not going to be any less intimidating to you if you wait until you're 45 and ultra desperate or something. It's really not a big deal...find someone you're interested in, find something fun you both want to do for an hour or two, and go do it, be it food or some other activity.

Yes, she might not want to see you again, but that's all part of the game, go find another one.

The woman I'm currently dating (who, again, we already knew each other) spent the better part of a day, around 10 hours together on our first "date" earlier this year...completely fun, time flew past...and we've been going out ever since, and I'm never less excited to see her than I was when we first started. It's been totally organic and didn't require much thought or worry.
