I'm a well known right winger on these boards but I come from a country with socialised health care, and I have to tell you that the few weeks I was not covered (too lazy to fill out a fucking form to have it renewed for free) I finally realised how valuable it is.
That said though, your country will never be able to afford such a thing, especially while you have an open border to the south. Even if the Republicans didnt oppose it, it would never go through as "universal" as it is made out to be.
Where do you think European royalty comes from if you go back far enough? SUre, they always claim some link to Roman nobility but really they were just the generals and merchants fo their day who got very successful and struck when the time was right.
That we had made this huge sacrifice fighting practically alone and abandoned by our colonial masters. Fact is, the French and the Brits lost more men there than we did, and we lost far more later in Western Europe which nobody ever really gave a shit about except for the French.
What a load of shit that Japanese had all of their military assetts in one central location. Fact is, Kokura had cloud cover. The commander was ordered to proceed to a secondary target if the first was obscured by cloud.
Every country has their national myth, (mine is Gallipoli)but don;t get suckered by who surrounds you.
So the French (some British) did not fight a furious rarguard acction? The krauts were just letting them on thier way as long as they were marching in the right direction? The Totenkopf didn't execute Brits who fought too hard before surrendering?
"egged on and misled by the tribe of Judah ... Let no German ever forget this, nor rest until these parasites have been destroyed and exterminated from German soil!" He advocated a "regular international all-worlds pogrom a la Russe" as "the best cure" and further believed that Jews were a "nuisance that humanity must get rid of some way or other. I believe the best would be gas!"
Nukes would have been invented elsewhere eventually, so many resources were poured into the Manhatten project because every day counted.
Obviously every Japanese city wasnt completely destroyed, or there wouldnt be anything left to nuke?
The Emporer did not have complete power, the military threatened and curbed his power on many occasions. It took him a while to gather enough support for a surrender and even then he feared that hardliners would kidnap him and issue decrees on his behalf (the public had not heard his voice, ever)
Uhuh. Because there sure isn't a vicitm mentality in Japan today regardng this.
They did not "try" to surrender, that would be were you say "we give up. Come and disarm us." Unauthorised (by the military leadership) feelers were being put out with bullshit conditions while the whole country was preparing to commit a long horrible suicide.
Every single day that the war continued meant more people dying, with millions more to die if the ground invasions had to continue. Did you know that part of the Olympic plans were to use gas on Japanese cities?
Did you know that the Allied planners estimated five million civilian casualties as a result of the gas alone?
If an apocalyptic event happened that caused a massive depopulation, but somehow most of the students had survived and gathered at the school with yourself being the only staff member to survive, would you abandon them to their fate or become their shepherd?
Would you try to start some kind of society with basic enough to understand instructions like Earth Abides or would you just get them to take care of you?
