"I was an AC130 gunship pilot based in Thailand playing a game of poker with my crew and bensa. I don't need to tell you who was winning.

We suddenly got a call saying that a special forces base near the Viet/Cambodian order called an mu lon was under attack from five NVA Main Force Regiments supported by armour and was about to be overrrun within the hour.
As we got up from the table to run to our fueled up waiting aircraft, bensa said he would lend a hand but then oddly ran out the back door of the mess - away from the airfield.

While we taxied down the runway my copilot pointed to the civilian highway parallel to the airfield and asked: "What the fuck is that crazy bastard think he is doing?" bensa was furiously pedalling a commandeered civilian rickshaw, must have been going at least forty miles an hour at that point, which I knew was just a warm up speed, his max biking speed being still classified in those times (as far as I am aware, still is).

I shook my head, knowing from long experience to never question a bensa action and replied "don't worry about him. We need to worry about getting over in time to save an mu lon from being overrun.

An hour later we were on approach but coming through a heavy cloud bank, so little visibility. We brought up the radio operator on duty at an mu lon to tell him that heavy air support was now on station. I could hardly believe it when they replied "Oh! that? don't worry about it now guys" I could hear what I thought were partying noises in the background and then what I thought was a female voice say "Em muon lm tnh voi anh, bensa"

Suddenly my copilot said "Holy shit, look!" so I looked up to see the cloud bank had disappeared to reveal that there was a a three mile swathe of destruction, black scorched earth broken up with lumps of red matter the size of potato sacks, with the occasional melted remains of a tank interpersed here and there.

Epilogue

I heard from a friend who recently visited Vietnam that this particular area of the border near is still not controlled y the communist party of Vietnam, as the half caste children left behind from bensa's local impregnation spree that day and night still guard the area. Also to this day the killing zones appear as a sea of blue from the air, as only Bluebonnet plants will grow in the soil, which is of course the state flower of Texas.

Read up on the Ribbon Creek incident. A DI killed six of his recruits.

PRIVATE_PARTZ said:I went through PI in the summer of 1971. FMJ's depiction of training and life in a USMCRD (recruit depot) is very consistent with what I remember. Kubrick really did his homework.

Yes, the drill instructors would occasionally hit us, but I'd been hit a lot harder in schoolyard fights. When they wanted to punish or motivate us, they did it with endless sessions of PT.

The only thing that I didn't find plausible was the shooting incident. There is absolutely no way that Pyle could have brought back live ammo from the rifle range to the squad bay. We were watched like prisoners for the whole time we were on the range. Every weapon had to be cleared and locked out when it wasn't being shot, and every last piece of brass had to be accounted for. I can't think of a way in which anybody could have acquired even a single live round.

Other than that, watching FMJ is about as close to experiencing USMC basic training as you can come without actually stepping off the bus at PI in the middle of the night.

1971. The movie was set 1967. Do you not think that maybe they were watching you that close because of a noticed trend in the past five years?

the army hasn't fought since iraq 1 in 1990s

the marines do all the work now.

they don't need tank busters.

it is good for video games, though

The US Army are not allowed attack planes, the AF was going to scrap them after GW1 ut when they found out that the army was going to acquire them they kept them on.

Is that what you call "losing" now, American retard?

YOU LOST. Your stupid pride won't let you admit it.

Actually this is true at least for Vietnam, the bulk of forces where kept in Europe and most enlisted "lifers" only went to Vietnam on training/adviser assignments.

There was a desperate scramble to cycle as many junior officers through the theatre as possible which is why LTs generally only had a six month tour compared to a year for draftees.

You cant even get your shitty enemy propaganda right.

That story was a Apache, and the farmer denied it later

Saddam, as a secular ruler of an Arab state, was an excellent counterbalance to Iranian domination of the region. His removal was a massive mistake that will continue to cost America dearly in the future.

but then Saddam decided that being secular sucked and Islamicised Iraq, adding Allah Akbar onto the flag in his own handwriting for instance.

So if remembering correctly, the tunnels are at ground level and the park was built on top of that. So they were there from the beginning.
